OVERVIEW

Our client is a highly respected IT services and consulting agency based in Italy. They approached Sigli to build a unified architecture for its portfolio of customer applications, each of which had its own brand and tech stack. We deployed a white-label platform and consolidated backend that allowed our client to maintain distinct brand identities for each of its applications. They saw a dramatic reduction in tech complexity along with cost savings and company-wide efficiency gains.

Our client is an IT consulting and services company that was founded in Italy and now has a global presence. It offers a wide range of tech and digital transformation solutions across ecommerce, logistics and supply, finance, data management, and more.

They also provide several customer-facing SaaS platforms. These include a suite of ecommerce tools for retail and wholesale merchants, and a document management app.

The Brief: Unify a Disconnected Suite of Applications

We were approached because the applications in our client’s portfolio each had their own codebase, underlying architecture, and user interface. This caused high maintenance overheads, inconsistent user experiences, and needless repetition across dev teams.

They were eager to administer their separate brands from one unified platform — a single underlying backend with the ability to customise different user dashboards. This would save money and team resources that would otherwise be spent navigating unnecessary technical complexity while positioning the company to scale and grow.

The Process:
Designing a Unified Platform for Multiple Brands

Sigli began with discovery and assessment, with the aim of understanding the current system in detail. We then unified the codebase and built a white-label frontend, which could be customised for different apps, with a single underlying infrastructure.

Sigli followed a three-step process:

Discovery and assessment: we audited code repositories to map UI components, feature variations and technical debt. We also identified which elements were configurable and reusable across all branded apps.

Architecture and design: we migrated core infrastructure components to TypeScript and designed a modular frontend architecture that could be customised for different brands. We also built a new shared component library (with accessibility baked into every end-user element) and implemented feature flagging (enable/disable features) at both the UI and routing levels.

Deployment: we began rollout with the lowest-risk brands, monitoring usage and checking for bugs, eventually moving to full deployment. We provided comprehensive documentation, training, and tooling for the internal team.

Project Management and Communication

The Sigli team followed an Agile methodology with daily internal stand-up meetings. We conducted weekly reviews with the leadership team. Tasks and timelines were tracked in a shared Jira board, and email and messaging apps served as always-on channels between us and our client.

The Results: A Unified Suite of Branded Apps

Sigli delivered a unified system that allowed our client to manage all of its eight unique brands from a single, shared backend and codebase.

Functionality included dynamic theming for brand-specific styling (colours, logos, and layouts) and feature flags to enable and disable features for specific frontends. All components were migrated to TypeScript to ensure long-term maintainability.

The result was a scalable, future-ready platform from which new apps could be launched in days. Developers could roll out features selectively with zero downtime. In addition, the platform was fully accessible to users with disabilities (according to A11Y standards).
